The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting is currently underway in Peshawar today (Monday) to observe the Ramadan moon.
Chaired by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee has urged Pakistanis nationwide to keep an eye out for the crescent, expressing hope that the holy month commences uniformly across the country.
If the moon is sighted today, Ramadan in Pakistan will commence on Tuesday.
Simultaneously, meetings of other zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees are taking place at their respective locations after Asr prayers on Shaban 29, for the sighting of the Ramadan moon in the Hijri year 1445.
According to the Met Office, the Ramadan moon was anticipated to appear on Sunday at 2 pm and could potentially be sighted today, with an age of over 28 hours.
Preparations for moon sighting have also been made in India and Bangladesh, as Muslims in these countries prepare for a month of fasting.
While the Ramadan moon is typically spotted in certain regions of India, along with the Gulf nations and some other countries globally, today marks the moon sighting in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other nations, signifying the likely commencement of fasting from tomorrow (Tuesday) onwards.
During this holy month, millions of Pakistanis, along with billions of Muslims worldwide, observe fasting from dawn till sunset, with fasting hours ranging from 12 to 17 hours, depending on geographical locations.
In Pakistan, Ramadan is characterized by increased acts of charity and public food distributions, with people setting up roadside stalls to aid those returning home in the evenings.
Additionally, the month witnesses a surge in business activities due to religious festivities and shopping trends in anticipation of Eid ul Fitr.
