The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended a senior officer of the Customs Academy of Pakistan (CAP), Karachi, following his repeated absence from a mandatory training program at Lahore University of Management Sciences.

According to an official notification issued on Wednesday, Iqbal Ahmad Memon (PCS/BS-18), currently serving as Deputy Director at CAP Karachi, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. The decision has been taken under Rule 5(1) of the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020, and will remain in place until the completion of formal disciplinary proceedings.

The FBR suspension Customs Academy officer case stems from the officer’s repeated and unauthorized absence from multiple sessions of a compulsory certification course conducted at LUMS. The training was considered essential for professional development and compliance with institutional standards.

Officials noted that the absence reflected a lack of due diligence and failure to meet assigned professional responsibilities. Such conduct, the notification emphasized, violates established service rules and undermines the importance of mandatory capacity-building programs within the customs administration.

The FBR has initiated formal proceedings against the officer, highlighting its commitment to enforcing discipline and accountability within its ranks. The move signals a strict stance on compliance with training requirements, particularly for officers serving in key positions related to customs operations and training institutions.

The case underscores the growing emphasis on professional development and adherence to official obligations within Pakistan’s revenue administration.
