The Islamabad High Court (IHC) achieved a significant milestone in 2024 by resolving over 10,000 cases, underscoring its commitment to ensuring timely justice. According to an official report, the court concluded 10,571 cases during the year, reflecting remarkable efficiency and dedication from its judges and legal staff.

At the forefront of this judicial accomplishment was Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, who adjudicated 2,525 cases, marking the highest number of cases resolved by any judge in 2024. His leadership played a pivotal role in streamlining the court’s functioning and expediting the delivery of justice.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani followed with 1,616 verdicts, while Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan concluded 1,490 cases. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb also made a significant contribution by resolving 1,021 cases, further demonstrating the IHC’s collective dedication to reducing backlogs.

  • Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri adjudicated 925 cases.
  • Justice Babar Sattar resolved 964 cases.
  • Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir delivered judgments in 1,195 cases.
  • Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz concluded 835 cases.

These efforts have significantly contributed to the court’s year-end achievement, ensuring citizens receive timely resolutions to their legal disputes.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Pakistan also reported progress in reducing its backlog of pending cases. The number of cases decreased to 58,487 by the end of November 2024, a notable improvement from the previous total of over 60,000.

During the period from November 16 to November 30, the apex court successfully resolved an additional 674 cases. This reduction reflects ongoing efforts to streamline judicial processes and address pending appeals promptly.

The Supreme Court’s current caseload includes:

  • 31,458 civil appeals.
  • 10,208 criminal appeals.
  • 18 suo motu cases.
  • 2,209 civil review petitions.
  • 136 human rights cases.
  • 3,251 jail petitions.

These figures illustrate the diverse nature of cases handled by the apex court and the challenges of managing such a broad spectrum of legal matters.
