Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday amid escalating tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The development highlights Pakistan’s strategic diplomatic stance as the regional conflict continues to intensify.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman early in the morning. The discussion focused on the evolving regional security situation and the need for stability.
During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. He reiterated Pakistan’s complete solidarity and unwavering support for the Kingdom and its people during these challenging times. The premier emphasized that Pakistan stands firmly with Saudi Arabia, just as the Kingdom has supported Pakistan in the past.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister praised Saudi Arabia’s leadership for exercising restraint despite rising hostilities in the region. He assured Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that Pakistan would continue to stand by Saudi Arabia at all times, reinforcing the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the two nations.
Importantly, Prime Minister Shehbaz also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities across the region. He stressed the urgent need to restore normalcy to prevent further escalation of conflict. In addition, he highlighted the importance of unity within the Muslim Ummah, stating that harmony among Muslim countries is more crucial now than ever before.
During the conversation, the Prime Minister also briefed the Saudi Crown Prince on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts. Pakistan has been actively engaging with all relevant parties, urging de-escalation and advocating for dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The Saudi Crown Prince appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and its consistent efforts to promote peace. Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination between their countries at all levels to address the evolving situation effectively.
This high-level contact follows recent security incidents in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom reportedly intercepted and destroyed four ballistic missiles launched towards Riyadh last week. Additionally, Saudi authorities thwarted a drone attack targeting a gas facility in the eastern region, further underscoring the fragile security environment.
Meanwhile, diplomatic developments suggest that Pakistan could play a key role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. Reports from a US-based outlet indicate that US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is currently in Islamabad to explore the possibility of negotiations with Iranian officials.
According to these reports, discussions between US and Iranian representatives could potentially take place in Islamabad later this week. The talks aim to find a diplomatic resolution to the conflict that began on February 28.
However, it is important to note that neither Pakistan’s Foreign Office nor the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad has officially confirmed these developments. No formal agreement regarding such negotiations has been announced so far.
Overall, Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia and its diplomatic outreach efforts reflect its intent to promote peace and stability in a region facing growing uncertainty.
