Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday delivered a resolute condemnation of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Syria, urging decisive global action to halt the violence. Speaking at a special session of the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo, convened by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the premier highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for immediate steps to ensure justice and aid for affected populations.
In his address, PM Shehbaz Sharif described the unfolding tragedy in Gaza as “one of the darkest chapters of modern history.” He criticized Israel’s military actions as blatant violations of international law, United Nations resolutions, and directives from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
“History will bear witness to these pages tainted in the blood of innocents,” he said, stressing the international community’s moral responsibility to address these atrocities.
The prime minister strongly endorsed the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), lauding its essential role in providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians. He condemned Israel’s attempts to delegitimize the organization, emphasizing its importance as the sole lifeline for millions of displaced people in Gaza and the West Bank.
“As violence spreads, threatening broader regional stability, Pakistan remains steadfast in advocating for a just and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” he added.
PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of an independent, sovereign Palestine. He urged global powers to prioritize this path as the only viable solution to enduring peace in the region.
The prime minister acknowledged and appreciated the mediation efforts led by Qatar and Egypt to achieve a ceasefire. He emphasized the need for sustained international collaboration to address the escalating crisis.
Highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian relief, PM Shehbaz shared Pakistan’s ongoing contributions to aid Palestine. “Pakistan, along with other nations, has sent essential relief goods through Egypt and Jordan. However, these efforts must continue to meet the dire needs of millions of displaced families,” he stated.
The prime minister emphasized the heightened struggles of vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, during the harsh winter months. He called for immediate and sustained global support to alleviate their suffering.
“The echoes and cries of Gaza’s innocent demand united global action to end this cycle of violence and oppression,” PM Shehbaz declared. He stressed the urgent need for the world to confront Israel’s military and political dominance, which he described as “barbaric.”
Addressing the tragic toll of the conflict, he urged nations to hear the voices of orphans, widows, and destitute children who have lost their families and limbs. “The world must act now to prevent a prolonged historic catastrophe,” he said.
The prime minister’s speech underscored the far-reaching consequences of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on regional stability. He warned that continued inaction would not only deepen the crisis in Gaza and Lebanon but also threaten peace across the broader Middle East.
