PM Shehbaz Sharif urged the international community to stand united in promoting peace, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening collective security. He expressed confidence that nations can collectively build a world anchored in lasting peace and shared prosperity, reinforcing Pakistan’s stance on dialogue and diplomacy.
He stressed, “Peace and security form the foundation of sustainable national and regional development. Pakistan has always advocated for peace through dialogue and constructive engagement.”
The prime minister noted that the value of peace becomes most apparent when nations face conflicts, and Pakistan has experienced both direct and indirect turbulence. “Despite challenges, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to maintaining peace and tranquility,” he added.
Citing incidents of unprovoked aggression, PM Shehbaz Sharif mentioned that in May, Pakistan faced attacks from the eastern front. He praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their readiness and exceptional performance, stating:
“Armed forces’ swift and decisive military action on land and in the air not only thwarted the enemy’s designs but also demonstrated Pakistan’s iron resolve and determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.”
While acknowledging the success in defending the nation, the prime minister emphasised that achieving lasting peace requires sincere and sustained efforts beyond military victories.
Highlighting regional connectivity, PM Shehbaz Sharif stressed that a peaceful Afghanistan is crucial for growth, progress, and prosperity in South Asia. He reiterated Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to maintain a peaceful neighborhood while expressing concern over militant groups that continue to destabilise peace within Afghanistan and beyond.
Referring to attacks on Pakistan’s border posts in October, he affirmed that the response was firm and decisive, sending a clear message to aggressors. PM Shehbaz urged Afghanistan to understand that lasting peace depends on reining in groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist outfits operating on its territory.
Beyond foreign policy, the prime minister highlighted domestic reforms aimed at promoting inclusive growth, strengthening institutions, and empowering youth and women. He underscored that parliaments play a unique role in improving the lives of citizens through legislation and governance.
“Parliaments serve as a platform to address the needs of the people, foster accountability, and ensure equitable development,” PM Shehbaz remarked. (National Assembly of Pakistan)
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and the collective role of lawmakers in shaping national and global policies. He called for dialogue as a bridge to foster cooperation, stating:
“Parliaments must serve as beacons of guidance. Collective thought, commitment, and action are essential to advance peace, security, and sustainable development.”
Gillani also addressed climate change, urging parliamentary leaders to integrate it into the legislative agenda while ensuring that national security remains rooted in equitable human development.
The address reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, fiscal reforms, and sustainable development. By engaging with international financial institutions and development partners, the country aims to:
- Enhance fiscal discipline and promote investment facilitation
- Strengthen climate resilience and adaptive strategies
- Foster regional stability and secure borders
- Encourage inclusive growth and youth empowerment
PM Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks highlighted that global collaboration and adherence to international norms are essential for long-term prosperity.
