Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Monday that both the nation and the armed forces are united in their mission to eradicate the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan. This statement was made during his day-long visit to Quetta, where he was warmly received by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Provincial Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail.
The Prime Minister’s entourage included key figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Minister for Power Awais Leghari, showcasing a strong governmental presence aimed at addressing security concerns in the region.
At the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Quetta, PM Shehbaz met with security personnel who were injured during recent anti-terrorism operations in the Kalat and other districts of Balochistan. According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister spent time with the wounded soldiers, lauding their courage and sacrifice.
“These brave soldiers are the true heroes of our nation,” PM Sharif remarked, emphasizing the protective shield they provide for the country. “As long as the protection of the nation is entrusted to such brave soldiers, the enemy can never dare to look at Pakistan with an evil eye,” he added. His visit not only served to boost morale but also highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting its forces in their fight against terrorism.
The timing of the Prime Minister’s visit was poignant, coming shortly after a deadly encounter where at least 18 soldiers were martyred during an operation in Mangocher, Kalat District, aimed at preventing terrorists from setting up roadblocks. The [Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that this operation successfully neutralized 12 terrorists, thwarting a significant terrorist plot aimed at destabilizing the peaceful environment in Balochistan.
This recent engagement is part of a broader strategy to combat terrorism in the region. Just last month, security forces executed an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in Kacchi District, Balochistan, where 27 terrorists were eliminated. The operation effectively dismantled several terrorist hideouts and confiscated substantial amounts of arms, ammunition, and explosives, as detailed by ISPR. These operations are critical in dismantling the networks of those who have been responsible for numerous attacks against both security forces and civilians.
During his stay, PM Shehbaz Sharif was scheduled to meet with the provincial leadership to receive a comprehensive briefing on the law and order situation in Balochistan. These discussions are vital for coordinating efforts between federal and provincial authorities to enhance security measures and intelligence sharing.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Quetta sends a clear message of the government’s unwavering resolve against terrorism, emphasizing unity between the civilian government and the military. It also underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security, especially in regions like Balochistan, which have historically faced significant challenges due to separatist and terrorist activities.
