the federal government, through Pakistan Revenue Automation (Pvt) Ltd (PRAL) in collaboration with the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), has extended the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to businesses in AJK. This significant development marks a pivotal step in the journey toward a more transparent, efficient, and modernized economy.

The POS system was officially inaugurated in two key locations in Mirpur, AJK, at Khaadi and KFC, symbolizing the start of a broader digital transformation. The ceremonies were graced by the presence of notable figures including Col Waqar Noor (retd), the Most Senior Minister; Azhar Sadiq, Minister for Development; Mian Waheed, Minister for Law; the Commissioner Inland Revenue; the President of the Chamber of Commerce; and several key representatives from PRAL such as Abid Naeem, General Manager-SD, Farheen Azhar, Head of Commercials and PMO, Shamsa Iqbal, Project Manager, Mehboob Ur Rehman, Project Manager, and Adeel Abbasi, Lead-POS.

Streamlining Tax Collection: By implementing a POS system, the process of tracking sales and tax collection becomes more efficient, reducing discrepancies and improving accuracy in revenue collection.

Minimizing Tax Evasion: With every transaction recorded digitally, the potential for tax evasion diminishes, ensuring that the government can collect taxes that are rightfully due.

Enhancing Transparency and Accountability: The digital trail provided by POS systems offers a clear path for auditing and compliance, fostering an environment where businesses operate with greater transparency.

Promoting a Business-Friendly Environment: By reducing the administrative burden on businesses, the POS system encourages compliance while also providing businesses with tools to manage their operations more effectively.

Supporting Economic Growth: Through better tax collection and reduced evasion, the government can reinvest in the economy, potentially leading to better public services and infrastructure, which in turn stimulates economic growth.

The inauguration events were not just about the formal launch; they also served as platforms for insightful discussions on the broader implications of digital transformation in taxation. Speakers highlighted how digital tools like POS systems are essential for building economic resilience, ensuring transparency, and fostering trust in the system. The dialogue emphasized that such technological integrations are vital for national progress, not merely for modernization but for catalyzing economic development.

The successful deployment in AJK is seen as just the beginning. The ceremonies ended with a networking lunch where stakeholders discussed future steps to deepen digital integration across AJK’s economy. There is optimism about expanding this initiative to other parts of AJK and eventually, across Pakistan, ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach every corner of the country.

PRAL, as a leader in revenue automation, reaffirms its commitment to supporting the government’s vision of a digital Pakistan. This project in AJK is a testament to PRAL’s dedication to facilitating technological advancements that align with national economic goals.
