Director General of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Dr. Sayeda Zia Batool, chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the PSQCA Headquarters in Karachi, reaffirming the Authority’s zero tolerance policy against substandard products and its unwavering commitment to consumer protection and industrial quality assurance across Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Secretary PSQCA Mr. A.K. Rind and all concerned directors, representing various operational and technical departments. The session aimed to evaluate the Authority’s performance, discuss strategic improvements, and strengthen quality control mechanisms to align with international best practices.

During the review, Dr. Batool received detailed briefings from each directorate, covering the Authority’s core functions such as standardization, certification, testing, and inspection. The discussions also included the progress of ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency within the organization.

Dr. Batool lauded the efforts of PSQCA employees for their dedication to maintaining a robust quality control ecosystem. She emphasized that every member of the Authority plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Pakistan’s industries adhere to both national and international quality standards.

“Our mission at PSQCA extends far beyond regulation,” Dr. Batool said. “We are a driving force for economic prosperity and a guardian of public safety. By ensuring high-quality products, we build confidence not just among consumers but also in global markets for products labeled ‘Made in Pakistan.’”

A major highlight of the meeting was Dr. Batool’s firm stance against substandard goods in the local market. She declared that PSQCA will enforce a zero-tolerance policy to eliminate products that compromise consumer safety or fail to meet prescribed standards.

“We must maintain constant vigilance,” she remarked. “There will be no room for negligence or compromise when it comes to the quality of products available to our citizens. Every product should reflect reliability, safety, and trust.”

She instructed the Market Surveillance and Enforcement Division to intensify its field activities, identify non-compliant manufacturers, and take strict action against those violating mandatory certification standards.

To reinforce the Authority’s capacity, Dr. Batool directed that additional resources be allocated to upgrade testing laboratories, modernize inspection equipment, and expand certification capabilities across regional offices.

This move is expected to enhance PSQCA’s ability to detect substandard products promptly, streamline testing and evaluation procedures, and build stronger collaborations with industry stakeholders to ensure full compliance.

She also stressed that all PSQCA activities must align with ISO and WTO standards, thereby strengthening Pakistan’s trade competitiveness and contributing to the country’s export potential.

Dr. Batool urged all directorates to foster closer collaboration with the private sector and other regulatory institutions. She emphasized that open communication and mutual cooperation are key to developing effective standardization frameworks.

PSQCA’s leadership also expressed its intention to enhance partnerships with international standardization organizations, such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), to harmonize local standards with global benchmarks.

This alignment, she noted, will enable local manufacturers to compete more effectively in foreign markets and ensure that Pakistan’s industrial output meets international quality demands.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Batool praised PSQCA staff for their contributions to promoting a culture of quality assurance throughout Pakistan. She emphasized that ensuring product quality is not only a regulatory responsibility but a moral duty toward consumers.

She also highlighted that PSQCA’s efforts contribute significantly to sustainable economic growth, industrial development, and public welfare, noting that the Authority’s initiatives align with the government’s broader agenda of consumer safety and economic resilience.

“Quality assurance builds trust,” Dr. Batool concluded. “Every Pakistani deserves access to products that meet the highest standards. We are committed to ensuring quality, protecting consumers, and boosting the nation’s global standing.
