The federal government has officially approved the launch of 5G trials in Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan telecom expansion, marking a major step toward introducing next-generation mobile connectivity in the region.
Initially, Gilgit Baltistan was not included in the national 5G rollout plan. However, after months of persistent efforts by local authorities and regional leadership, the area has now been incorporated into the testing phase.
Efforts Behind the Approval
Officials confirmed that the breakthrough came after continuous engagement between regional representatives, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the federal IT ministry. The discussions emphasized the urgent need for improved digital connectivity in remote and underserved areas of Gilgit Baltistan.
The proposal for 5G trials in Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan telecom expansion was formally reviewed through a structured policy process. A detailed framework was prepared and cleared by the Ministry of Law and Justice as well as the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication.
Following this, the proposal received approval from the Prime Minister’s office, marking a key milestone in the digital development agenda.
Final Approvals and Regulatory Clearance
The plan was later presented to members of the Gilgit Baltistan Council, where it secured final approval along with consent from the Governor of the region.
After all necessary approvals were completed, PTA issued formal directives allowing telecom operators to begin 5G testing in the region.
Impact of 5G Trials in the Region
The introduction of 5G trials in Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan telecom expansion is expected to significantly improve internet speed, connectivity, and digital access in one of the country’s most geographically challenging regions.
Officials believe the trials will also help establish a foundation for a future 5G spectrum auction, ensuring that Gilgit Baltistan is aligned with the national rollout of advanced telecom services.
