The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has announced KP Government fuel saving measures, ordering a halt to the use of 60% of official vehicles across provincial departments for the next two months.

The decision was taken in response to concerns about possible disruptions in petroleum supplies due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Authorities said the step is part of precautionary efforts to conserve fuel resources.

According to an official notification issued by the provincial administration department, the restriction applies to all government offices and departments operating under the provincial government.

Departments have been instructed to strictly comply with the directive during the two-month period.

While the vehicle use restriction will apply to most government departments, officials clarified that essential services will remain exempt.

The exemptions include operational duties carried out by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, law-enforcement activities, rescue services, emergency response units and other field enforcement operations.

Authorities said these exemptions are necessary to ensure that public safety, emergency services and law enforcement remain fully operational despite the fuel conservation measures.

Along with reducing the use of official vehicles, the provincial government has also introduced a 25% reduction in monthly fuel allowances for government officials.

This step is intended to further limit fuel consumption within government institutions.

Under the revised policy, ministers, advisers and special assistants to the chief minister will now receive 292 liters of fuel per month, compared with the previous allocation of 390 liters.

Fuel allocations for senior bureaucrats, including the chief secretary and other high-ranking officials, have also been reduced as part of the cost-saving initiative.

Officials said the new restrictions are temporary and will remain effective for two months.

During this period, the government will continue to monitor regional developments and potential energy supply disruptions caused by the ongoing geopolitical situation.

The KP Government fuel saving measures are aimed at ensuring prudent fuel usage and maintaining adequate energy reserves if global oil supply chains are affected by the Middle East conflict.
