The federal government has approved the early disbursement of salaries, allowances, and pensions for May 2026 to facilitate government employees and pensioners ahead of Eid ul-Azha.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, payments for May will now be released on May 22, 2026, instead of the usual payment schedule. The decision was taken because Eid ul-Azha is expected to fall on May 27 or May 28, depending on the moon sighting.
The Finance Ministry directed the Controller General of Accounts to ensure that advance payments are made to all federal government employees and pensioners under Rule 25(3) of the Federal Government Receipts and Payments Rules, 2025.
The notification, issued by Deputy Secretary Muhammad Anwar, was also shared with key departments, including the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues, Military Accountant General, and the Chief Accounts Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The government regularly announces early salary and pension payments before major religious festivals to help families manage additional Eid expenses. These expenses usually include travel, shopping, sacrificial animals, gifts, and household needs during the holiday season.
The move comes at a time when inflation and rising living costs continue to impact households across Pakistan. Early payments are expected to provide financial relief to employees and pensioners preparing for Eid ul-Azha celebrations.
